The book I made for my final year project at Central Saint Martins was read by  Rubberlegz, who was featured in the book. He loved it and discussing my ideas with him was one massively inspiring experience, and this lead onto another project…

Shun Sugimoto (a.k.a. Ame) has designed and handcrafted the first book on abstract breakdance. Shun has gathered an extensive research into the dance culture and explored it through literature and graphic design. The book captures the constantly evolving culture of breakdance, and explores the political aspects within breakdance, all in a aim to help lead the reader form his or her definition of what ‘breakdance’ is.

Here is some photography I did in March with ShagiZoo, an experimental dancer from Spain. I wanted to contrast the hard metal and soft flesh. Which goes with the style of his dance. Check out http://www.shagizoo.com/

I then realised how good tumblr actually was, so I decided to come back to it again. Like you say, you only realise how good things are when you miss it.

The Hub Westminster // Toilet Scribbles

I decided to continue my project in 2nd year at CSM for the Hub. The project relocated toilet scribbles from one location to another in order to juxtapose the process in which exchange of thoughts occur in relation to the environments, specifically in terms of privacy and publicity. Taken inspirations from quotes “Anonymous web forums are like toilet scribbles”, the project aims to question the way in which we use different agency of communication to express ourselves.

These are some images from the project. (circa 2009)

Some toilets are literally covered in scribbles: Foundry: EC2

Some very personal quotes.

At the time, I used OHP paper for the transferring process.

The transferred to a quote which I found relevant, thus making a juxtaposition of personal expression from different locations

The project ended at this point, but this idea of provocatively stimulating thoughts by using existing fragments of ideas work appropriately for the task of my project at the Hub, so I decided to take it forward and make some kind of a revival.

The Hub Westminster // Opening Party

Here are some images of the opening party of The Hub Westminster. The idea of experts from different backgrounds gathering in one place with common motivation is always a good vibe.

Manifesto posters

Breastfeeding performance art

Nice food

Many motivational talks happening

Creatives from different backgrounds gather in one place.

In the heart of Picadilly, where you can view the Trafalgar Square, The Shard, London Eye, and Big Ben from the penthouse. I must get up there again for a drink one time!

The Hub Westminster // Artist in Residence

I have been contacted by my video art friend We Free The Box to be involved in installing artwork into the new venue of the social venture, The Hub Westminster.

The Hub is a members only club for social entrepreneurs, start ups, and creatives and holds regular events, talks, gatherings as well as a hire space for meetings and general coffee chats. Rather than my lengthy explanation, please visit their site!

I was asked to create an design/artwork that communicates the Hub’s ethos and stimulate thoughts of the members, as well as initiate to inhibit the space from the brand new venue. There are no specific format of the work or deadlines, the idea is that it can be an ongoing project by me, in the position of Artist in Residence.

Update!

Much time has passed since the last update, just about 5 month. That is a long time. What happened? too many to mention.. but in relevance to this blog, the biggest change is that I am no longer a student, yes I graduated in June.

Till then, the purpose of this blog was to record process for the markers of the 3rd year BA Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins, and so it was kind of academic. So Here is the change, as much as I enjoy studying, I no longer need to write in the long descriptive way.

So I thought about moving the blog completely, but for the few but my precious followers on Tumblr, I soon realised that would be kind of.. long. So I will keep the same blog, but it may have a different vibe from now. Really, from now on, it is only for you lovely people who wants to read it.

So I just decided to make this announcement. And it goes like this.

and yes! thanks for reading :)
